ABOUT US

Welcome to the Paradigm Shift Productions Web site. We hope you'll visit our home on the Web often! Let me give you a little background on the origins of PSP and what our musical vision is all about.

It wasn't our initial plan to start a production company/record label. But with all the changes in the record business and music technology over the last few years, we've watched the number of independent labels grow, and many artists thrive and flourish in this exciting realm outside the mainstream. We knew we wanted an alternative arrangement to present our music at our own pace, and finally our own production company seemed like the answer. Thus, Paradigm Shift Productions was formed to produce, promote and exploit our musical projects such as The Mighty Jeremiahs and Taildragger.

As a member of The Kentucky HeadHunters, I have been very fortunate to make a career out of doing something I love with a gifted group of musicians. This has been a great learning experience for the entire band, an education that continues to this day. In 1992, the band had a major shake-up; Ricky Lee and Doug Phelps left the group to form Brother Phelps. It was a traumatic time for the band, but we found peace and refuge through our music.

During all the transitions of 1992, my step-son Jon McGee and I started booking time at Barrick Recording in Glasgow, Kentucky, to record casual jams with some old friends. Jon had just recently parted ways with his band Black Cat Bone, losing a major record deal. Over the next 3 to 4 years we continued to lay down tracks, never really intending to record a CD. It was like therapy for us, and a heck-of-a-lot of fun! But it wasn't until Jimmy Hall (of Wet Willie fame) came in and sang "John The Revelator" in 1998, that things really started to come together. Eventually, these "informal sessions" turned into The Mighty Jeremiahs with vocalist Jimmy Hall, Jon McGee on drums, bassist Mark Hendricks (Jon's band mate in Taildragger), and myself becoming the core members. With guest appearances by my HeadHunter band mates, Phil Keaggy, Bonnie Bramlett, Ricky Lee Phelps, Darrell Mansfield and many others, the project far exceeded my expectations.

Meanwhile, Fred, Richard and I reformed The Kentucky HeadHunters. The good Lord pulled us through and the band is still going strong today, with Anthony Kenney joining the ranks and Doug Phelps now back in the line-up. Anthony, Doug, Fred, Richard and I have always been able to follow our creative instincts. Recently we recorded a project of all cover tunes in conjunction with Sony Music that will be released in Spring 2005. So I’m blessed to have a foot in each musical world -- still active with the HeadHunters in the mainstream industry, but challenged by the prospect of kicking off an alternative setting for the Mighty Jeremiahs and Taildragger with Paradigm Shift Productions.

Speaking of Taildragger, I have always been a big fan. They're at the top of my favorite band list. Our influences are more or less the same, but they've accomplished many things I've never had the chance to do in a power-trio line-up. (If you haven't heard their first CD "Anywhere, Nowhere," grab a copy! You'll see what I mean.) Once I heard the rough mixes for their upcoming studio release "Skeptic Tank," I felt compelled to get involved. Once I had co-produced and played on their CD, and finished my own project with The Mighty Jeremiahs, the thrill of full control over our musical endeavors made it clear to us all that we needed to start this company .

Partnering with John Timmons and ear X-tacy¨ records out of Louisville, Kentucky, along with Burnside Distribution in Portland, Oregon, we are at last realizing our dream. Paradigm Shift Productions is our creative outlet! Be looking for "Rock N' Roll To Feed Your Soul" in mid December, a 10 song sampler featuring tracks from the upcoming Mighty Jeremiahs and Taildragger CD's. The debut of The Mighty Jeremiahs and "Skeptic Tank" by Taildragger will both be released in the spring of 2005.

A grass roots, family-run company, we at Paradigm Shift Productions are convinced that Kentucky has a unique take on blues, rock, soul and music in general. Our objective is to keep the integrity of the music high, explore our musical roots deep, and have some fun in the process.

"Your music doesn't have to be at the top of the charts, if it's at the top of your heart."
